TAHJ Minniecon registered a double and Gold Coast United registered their fourth win in as many games with a confident 2-0 away win over Newcastle Jets in round 10 of the National Youth League.
United's promising young side remain undefeated in their first year of competition, the only team still with a zero in their 'games lost' column, and are fast becoming the team to watch in the NYL.
With other sides still to play this weekend, Gold Coast move to the top of the ladder, and on this evidence they will take some shifting from the upper echelons of the competition.
In the early stages, the home side set about the United youngsters with gusto, ensuring a physical encounter for the rest of the half as Mike Mulvey's side looked to settle into their stride.
But spurred on by their recent fine form, Gold Coast got to grips with both their opposition and the blustery conditions and were soon posing problems for the Jets' defence.
Golgol Mebrahtu was combining well with Tahj Minniecon and the latter almost opened the scoring when he was on the end of Mebrahtu's cross in the 9th minute.
With James Brown also performing well for United, it seemed only a matter of time before the visitors took the lead. The inevitable happened seven minutes before half-time thanks to more magic from the irrepressible Minniecon.
The Qantas Young Socceroo picked up the ball wide on the left-hand side, before weaving his way past three Jets defenders and firing a low shot past Dion Shaw in the Newcastle goal.
An identical run from Minniecon on the stroke of half-time almost yielded a second goal for United, but this time the speedster's strike rattled the Newcastle crossbar and score remained 1-0 at the break.
Gold Coast continued to dominate the second period and increased their lead just six minutes after returning to the field.
Minniecon was again the thorn in the Jets' side, producing another breathtaking run through the home defence before smashing home the second goal to confirm the points for United.
More chances came and went, but in the end it was another fine three points for Mike Mulvey's side, who face another tough road trip next weekend when they take on Adelaide United Youth at Hindmarsh Stadium.
