Mirabella twice spoke out this month about the need for a new coach at Melbourne Heart despite Van't Schip still having a year left on his contract at the A-League's newest club.

Mirabella initially said he wanted Heart to snare double-winning Brisbane Roar manager Ange Postecoglou for the club in case he was snapped up by Melbourne Victory.

And later he praised South Melbourne FC coach Eddie Krnecevic in an apparent overture to the former Socceroo.

Last week Mirabella admitted to divisions behind the scenes in Melbourne Heart's first season in the A-League and a sense of disappointment at not making the finals.

"There were teething problems in the first year," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.

"There have only been two board members – myself and one other - who’ve really been involved in football [before]. The other ones are really learning about the game and the system.

"The club’s going alright. We would’ve preferred to have finished higher and in the finals in the first year. We were disappointed on that side but everything else is in place."

On van't Schip, he said: "Erm... I think he’s done alright but he’s got to learn more. Postecoglou for me has done the best job of anyone in Australia.

"He’s put in a system of play which he was criticised for at the start.

"I've got regrets [at not snaring Postecoglou for Heart]."

And he added: "To be quite honest, I think Eddie Krncevic can be another Postecoglou...he's your next coach..."

Today Melbourne Heart chairman Peter Sidwell's patience ran out with Mirabella and terminated their partnership in the club.

A terse club statement read: "Melbourne Heart FC Chairman, Mr Peter Sidwell, confirms the club has today signed an agreement to part ways with foundation investor and board member Mr Joe Mirabella.

"Mr Sidwell would like to thank Mr Mirabella for his support during Melbourne Heart FC’s inaugural campaign and wishes him well in the future.

"The Club will make no further comment on this matter."
