The former Hartlepool striker was instrumental in United's opening two goals in the 3-1 over Brisbane Roar and Bleiberg has trumpeted his value as a selfless team player.

"He is a terrific player and a terrific team-mate. Joel does everything for the benefit of the team," Bleiberg said. "Joel is perhaps better known for his goals, but one of his best qualities is his ability to set up opportunities for others.

"He was unselfish last weekend but there is no doubt in my mind that he will contribute with plenty of goals for us this season."

Porter's vision in picking out Shane Smeltz for the opening goal and setting up Jason Culina for the second were signs that the trio are starting to understand each other in the final third of the pitch.

The former Socceroo, while delighted with the combinations he fashioned with Smeltz and Culina, says the best is yet to come as Gold Coast look to really hit their straps in the coming weeks.

"Between us we knew what we were capable of and on those couple of occasions last week it worked well. The trick for us now is to do it more often," said Porter.

"I want to score goals obviously, but being unselfish and trying to set up other players if they are in a better position is a big part of my game. I don't mind who scores the goals as long as they go in."

After a sensational beginning for the A-League newcomers, Porter added that it was critical to get their home form right, starting this week with United's inaugural home game against North Queensland Fury.

He added: "All teams who aspire to do well need to make their home ground a fortress and that's what we want Skilled Park to become for us.

"I'm really looking forward to it. We had a great start last week and we want to go one better now and get our first win at home."

Coach Bleiberg has promised open attacking football once more as he prepares his side for Fury's visit, conscious of the need to produce the goods in the club's first fixture on home soil.

"Our aim is to play an open, attacking style and I'm sure the supporters will be entertained by the brand of football we play," Bleiberg said. "If we go forward as much as we can and Fury do the same, there could be quite a few goals.

"We went away last week and won 3-1 against one of the teams a lot of people expect to do very well this season. I believe we can play even better than we did against the Roar, and as we are at home, I think the players will relax a little more and express themselves.

"It's our first home game in the Hyundai A-League and obviously we want to put on a good performance and get a good result."
