MIRON Bleiberg has called for referees to 'show some feeling' for the game after Gold Coast United suffered their first loss at home in bizarre circumstances.
Reigning premiers Melbourne Victory stole the three points when Kevin Muscat was allowed to re-take a missed penalty in the 86th minute to break the deadlock.
Referee Peter Green ruled United defenders had encroached on the penalty area before Muscat struck the ball but Bleiberg found that hard to swallow.
"Every one of us; coaches, players, media, need to have some feeling for the game," Bleiberg said.
"When you see ten men fighting for their lives trying to get something out of the game and then that happens ... it's frustrating.
"I'm not disputing the decision, but I'm talking about feeling for the game; Kevin Muscat after 20 years finally misses a penalty, let him pay the price for it."
Replays showed that three Gold Coast players did leave their mark a fraction of a second early, but from a position which was out of Muscat's view.
"Bas (Van Den Brink) was directly behind the kicker so there was no way he could have disrupted him," said Bleiberg
"The referee has to show some feeling for the game, in this case he showed a lack of feeling."
Minus a man from the 29th minute, the new side held Melbourne to a 2-2 stalemate heading into the closing stages but were dealt the fatal blow when Archie Thompson drew a foul in the box.
Enter Muscat - Hyundai A-Leagues all-time premier marksman with a record 19 goals from penalties and the reputation of having never missed the target from the spot.
With the game on the line, Muscat chipped well over the top of goal before referee Green gave the veteran a second bite at the cherry, leaving Gold Coast players and fans devastated.
But Bleiberg was still positive about the Round 9 clash where Shane Smeltz will return from suspension to face his former team.
He added: "Luckily we have a game here on Friday; we are angry now and we will have Smeltz back and hopefully Robson back... poor Wellington."
