Huddersfield originally took the lead in the 27th minute courtesy of Isaiah Brown before Kiwi Chris Wood equalised eight minutes later.

But in the 90th minute Mooy’s long range drive deflected off Pontus Jansson which fortuitously landed to German Michael Hefele in the box to knock it home.

The fiery derby had Huddersfield coach David Wagner rushing to celebrate the winning goal but clashed with counterpart Garry Monk as he returned to the bench which sparked a melee with both managers sent to the stands.

The win means Mooy’s Huddersfield are now fourth on 55 points and are pushing for promotion into English football’s top flight next season.

Mooy remains a key part of Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou’s plans with crucial qualifiers approaching for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Australia play Iraq in Tehran, Iran and subsequently UAE in Sydney towards the end of March.
