NORTH Queensland Fury have suffered further injury misery with David Williams expected to be sidelined for several weeks after suffering a torn hamstring against Brisbane Roar.
Williams hit the turf during last night's game but the officials allowed the game to continue - much to Fury's anger.
Ferguson said the players had to put their heads down and fight back ahead of Sunday's clash with Newcastle Jets at Energy Australia Stadium.
"We've got four days to put it right and take on Newcastle and there's plenty of improvement needed all over the park," said coach Ian Ferguson.
Fury could not reproduce the tight-fisted defensive effort from last Saturday which saw them claim a 1-0 win over Perth Glory and struggled to contain a marauding Roar forward line from the outset.
Brisbane's first goal came in controversial circumstances when speedster David Williams was down for an extended period but the fourth official and referee let play continue.
Henrique raced onto a through ball from halfway and volleyed a cross to Van Dijk inside the box who clinically tapped the ball past the Fury defence and keeper Justin Pasfield in the 19th minute.
Ferguson was furious with the decision to let the play continue and his charges responded and pushed back against Brisbane to create chances without reward.
"We thought he was down on the field and the play would stop at that point," Ferguson said.
"If the play stops and we get a man on the field it's a different story, but it didn't and Brisbane played on and we didn't defend and Van Dijk gets his goal, simple as that.
"They executed well and we didn't defend well. We had our chances but again they didn't come off. "
The second half was a mixed bag with both teams surging forward without reward.
Ferguson summed it up in simple language.
"We played poorly in the first half and they got two goals. We played poorly in the second half and they got none," he said.
The news was equally bad for Williams who will be out for an extended period with a hamstring tear just when he was hitting his straps.
"It's not good for Willow with his hamstring and he'll be out for a while which is a blow for us and him," Ferguson added.
"We've got a lot more to worry about and we need to look at how we can get off this rollercoaster we're on with results."
