MELBOURNE Victory goalkeeper Glen Moss has agreed to terms to join Gold Coast United later this week in the latest spin of the A-League merry-go-round for glovesmen.
The transfers were sparked after Michael Petkovic returned from Sivasspor in Turkey to join Victory while Central Coast Mariners' keeper Danny Vukovic went in the other direction to join Konyaspor.
Jess Vanstrattan today joined the Mariners from the Gold Coast, while Moss will now replace Vanstrattan at United.
Moss, who has only just returned from representing New Zealand at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, spent 12 months at Melbourne Victory after making his debut in Round 1 of last season.
While disappointed to be moving on, the opportunity to join Gold Coast United was one that the 27 year-old couldn't turn down.
"I'm sad to be leaving Melbourne but the prospect of first-team football and re-uniting with my family who now live in Queensland was obviously very appealing," he said.
"As a goalkeeper you really have to be playing week in, week out, and I feel I have a better chance of playing regular football up north.
"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time in Melbourne and made some terrific friends along the way. We're parting on good terms and I wish the guys the best of luck for the season ahead."
Moss made 14 appearances for Melbourne Victory during the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season, as well as representing the club in its AFC Asian Champions League campaign earlier in the year.
After a promising start to his career in the navy blue, a few indifferent results led to the Kiwi being replaced in goal by youngster Mitchell Langerak - who has also since departed to join Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
And with Melbourne Victory recently signing Socceroo Petkovic, Moss has decided the time is right to move on.
Melbourne Victory Coach, Ernie Merrick wished Moss well at his new home.
"Glen's been a good player for us and a great person to have around the club, but unfortunately things didn't quite work out for him here in Melbourne," he said.
"He's a high-quality ‘keeper, and barring suspension would've been in goal for New Zealand at the recent World Cup, so there's no doubting his ability and I'm sure he'll make his mark in the A-League."
