Internazionale coach Jose Mourinho admits he is concerned about the number of injuries suffered by his defenders heading into the new season.
Italy international Marco Materazzi sustained a muscular problem on Tuesday as the Nerazzurri lost two games in the Tim Trophy against AC Milan and Juventus, and joins fellow defenders Cristian Chivu, Ivan Cordoba and Walter Samuel on the treatment table.
Mourinho said: "To be honest, I am worried about the situation of our defensive line. We will have to evaluate the situation with the medical team."
The Portuguese placed little importance on Tuesday night's results - a 1-0 loss to Juventus and a 4-3 defeat on penalties after a goalless draw with eventual trophy winners Milan.
"Fortunately, we could afford to lose the two friendly games we played," said Mourinho.
"The important games will start in one month and we will have to be ready by then."
The matches in Turin allowed Mourinho to test new signing Sulley Muntari, who joined Inter on a permanent transfer from Portsmouth on Monday.
Mourinho believes that although the 23-year-old was not at his best on Tuesday he will fit in well at the San Siro.
"Muntari was tired," said the former Porto and Chelsea boss. "In recent days he has had to travel a lot but he has been useful to the team and has proved to have an attacking attitude.
"He is a player who can adapt well to our team."
Inter, who have won the Serie A crown for the past three seasons, begin the 2008/09 campaign when they take on Roma next month in the Italian Supercopa.
