MELBOURNE Victory will decide overnight whether to appeal after Nik Mrdja was hit with a two-match ban for his clash with Shannon Cole last week.
Mrdja was dismissed in the 2-1 win over Sydney FC after his elbow connected with Cole and was spotted by the officials.
Victory today received notification from Football Federation Australia that the independent Match Review Panel has proposed a sanction of two matches for Mrdja following an incident in or around the 74th minute of its match against Sydney FC at Etihad Stadium last Thursday.
The MRP alleged that Mrdja committed the offence of "assault on a player (e.g. violent conduct when not challenging for the ball)" against Shannon Cole.
Mrdja has until 12pm AEDT tomorrow to accept the proposed sanction or refer the matter to a hearing by the FFA Disciplinary Committee.
Should Victory win their semi-final tie then Mrdja would miss out on the Grand Final.
Melbourne Victory will review the incident overnight and make no further comment until tomorrow.
