Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has cleared German loanee Maxi Beister to make his A-League debut against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday night.
Beister arrived a fortnight ago is not ready for a full game with Muscat stating it would be “unrealistic and irresponsible” for the FSV Mainz 05 winger to start.
The German undertook individual strength and fitness training since his arrival in Melbourne and had his Visa finalised in the process.
“He (Beister) had a spring in his step this morning, he’s been working away very hard and getting close to being involved with the team and having to wait like we all were,” Muscat said.
“This morning we got an email nice and early, he got a decent spring in his step and he's looking forward to it.
“We are planning all week without him as well, things have changed but he will certainly come into contention.
“He's got to a point where he can be thrown in and add some value to the squad. He can play anywhere in that front third of the park. It gives us more ammunition, it starts placing pressure on people in those positions as well.”
In-form winger Marco Rojas’ absence will be a big blow to Victory with the Kiwi on national duties for their upcoming World Cup Qualifier against New Caledonia.
Jai Ingham or Fahid Ben Khalfallah will replace Rojas, while captain Carl Valeri can play 90 minutes if needed after being rested in the 2-1 loss to Sydney FC follwoing his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Stefan Nigro will also continue to play in the left-back role in place of Daniel Georgievski (collarbone) after impressing the boss with his performance last week.
The Sky Blues conceded thier first goal of the season against the Victory.
In contrast, the Wanderers have failed to keep a clean sheet all season.
Muscat said it was too early to start talking about “six-point games” as Sydney FC maintain its perfect season to sit on top of the table.
“We’ve analysed Western Sydney thoroughly, we don’t think they’ve settled in their starting XI, it doesn’t help and it’s pretty similar to ourselves,” he said.
“Hopefully it continues tomorrow night, we have to be mindful of that as well, we’re not conceding chances but we’re conceding goals, so I’d rather worry about our concerns than Tony’s (Wanderers coach Tony Popovic) issues.
“We got some really good outcomes in the game last week based on how we approached the game and what we wanted to get out of it tactically, the majority of our week has been spent on that.”
