J.LEAGUE side Nagoya Grampus marched into the last eight of the Asian Champions League as goals by Yoshizumi Ogawa and Keiji Tamada saw off Korean champions Suwon Bluewings 2-1.
Suwon had the better of possession in the last-16 match but Ogawa struck against the run of play midway through the first half and Tamada extended the advantage with a superb finish in the 66th minute.
Brazilian striker Edu cut the deficit three minutes after Tamada's strike but Suwon were unable to muster an equaliser as they bowed out of the competition.
Their misery was compounded in the last minute by the dismissal of Yang Sang-min.
The Korean side were on top early on with Hong San-hook dragging a shot wide of the left upright in the 15th minute while Nagoya goalkeeper Seigo Narazaki made a superb save to stop Park Hyun-bem's low shot four minutes later after excellent build-up play on the edge of the Grampus box.
However, it was the home side that took the lead with virtually their first attempt on goal in the 22nd minutes. Brazilian forward Davi flicked the ball towards Ogawa, who got behind the Suwon defence to fire past goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae.
Davi nearly made it 2-0 eight minutes later when his first-time effort was superbly saved by Lee while Tamada should have done better on the stroke of half-time when he steamed down the left and got around the Suwon defence only to produce a weak effort that did not unduly trouble Lee.
Suwon continued to boss possession in the second half with their best chance of an equaliser arriving in the 50th minute when Hong's dangerous low cross just eluded Edu and Kwak Hee-ju.
Tamada gave his side a two-goal lead in the 66th minute when he fired a low shot across Lee into the bottom-left corner of the Suwon net.
Edu pulled a goal back shortly afterwards when he shot past Narazaki from 15 yards after the ball was squared to him by substitute Kim Dae-eui.
But Suwon were unable to create any clear-cut openings in the dying minutes and were reduced to 10 men when Yang was sent off for a second bookable offence.
