BAYERN Munich director of sport Christian Nerlinger has defended Miroslav Klose after the striker came in for criticism for his contrasting goalscoring fortunes with club and country.
Klose scored just three goals for Bayern all last season, but went on to net five times for Germany at the World Cup.
This season, he has failed to find the back of the net in Bayern's first three league matches, yet he scored three goals in two games for Joachim Low's side last week.
But Nerlinger does not believe Klose has a different attitude towards his domestic duties than when he is in the international spotlight.
"First of all, I think teams like Azerbaijan are poorer than our opponents in the Bundesliga so you can't really compare them," he told Sport Bild magazine.
"But certainly games for the national team are special moments.
"Of course our players are equally professional for the club and always try to give their all."
Bayern coach Louis van Gaal does not seem so convinced, though, and is set to drop the striker for tonight's Champions League clash with Roma after replacing him after the first half of the 0-0 draw with Werder Bremen last weekend.
