United's squad will go through a drastic overhaul at the end of the Hyundai A-League season with a number of players defecting for more money or different opportunities.

Defender Sasa Ognenovski will play for Korean club Seongnam, Jason Spagnuolo is heading to North Queensland while Diego will play for Wellington Phoenix. Ang Costanzo and Jonas Salley want more game time and have also been released by the Reds.

"As Sasa (Ognenovski) has said before we are not in this game for a long time.

"It's an opportunity to set yourself up financially so I guess if something comes up then I'd have to have a look at it."

Meanwhile Dodd hasn't given up hope of playing for Australia again, believing an eye-catching finals series will force his name before selectors once more.

The 29-year-old, who was not included in the Hyundai A-League-filled Socceroos squad which tackled Indonesia earlier this week, says he's still a chance to play at the top level.

"Of course I can. I'd be lying if I said wasn't disappointed about not making the squad," Dodd said.

"It's an opportunity now to play with Adelaide United and play well and put myself in the spotlight for national selection."

While he hasn't spoken to Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek recently, Dodd has obviously been given some feedback about his shortcomings. He was quick to answer questions on ways he can improve.

He said: "I think I have to work on my game defensively a bit more. Maybe track back a bit more, cover the right full back a bit more.

"I'd always like to score more goals, set up more goals but at the end of the day you go out there and do what you can and hopefully I can produce more in the finals."

"But going forward, I've been pretty happy with the way things have been going."
