Australia eased to victory over the Cedars, with first-half goals from Tim Cahill and McKay before Archie Thompson's 88th-minute sealer.

Osieck, as well as veterans Lucas Neill and Mark Schwarzer, all labelled the result as a positive confidence boost for the squad ahead of Tuesday's World Cup qualifier with Jordan in Amman.

However, the German also commented on the specifics of the performance, particularly McKay and Bresciano's partnership in midfield in the absence of the injured Carl Valeri.

"First of all our shape was decent, our new midfield with Matty and Bresc worked pretty well," Osieck told Fox Sports.

"They complimented each other pretty well, they had a lot of tactical awareness. Maybe at first glance you'd say players of that type won't fit but that's exactly one of the things I wanted to see and from my assessment it did work."

Osieck was also happy with the input of Cahill and Alex Brosque up front in attack, along with wide pair Nikita Rukavytsya and Robbie Kruse.

"The two in the centre up front were very sharp and mobile, Tim and Alex. The wide players didn't just bring the pace to attacking, they also tracked back and did a great job defensively," he said.

The Australia coach admitted the squad wasn't exactly where he wanted it to be, but felt confident ahead of the Jordan game.

“We got some confidence from the game and a win is always good," he said. "We can build on that.

"It's not where I want to be with the team but we're going to be there. It;s still early in the season we're getting there.”

Osieck also revealed Brosque should be okay for Jordan despite being replaced in the second half after copping a nasty knock.

Meanwhile, Neill said the game was ideal preparation for the upcoming game in Amman.

“It was hot, very humid, but we've been training in it very hard for five days so we were ready for it and I think it's been a really good preparation leading up to Tuesday,” he said.

Neill also revealed the rationale behind handing the skipper's armband to Schwarzer in his 100th international.

“I felt it was the right thing to do," he said. "There was a bit of debate before the game whether it should be done or not, we tried to think of some other special ways to make it happen, but I'd been thinking about it for a while.

"He doesn't need any more significnace for the day, he's been a fantastic servant, he should get all the applause that he deserves and it's about trying to put some icing on the cake for him.”

Schwarzer added: “I'm actually quite happy the game is over with. The boys did a great job tonight. It's a great honour and I feel very priveleged and humbled by it. It's a dream to play that many times for your country and I don't want to stop.”
