Lord told shareholders at Victory’s fifth Annual General Meeting he will retire as chairman to become Melbourne Victory Founding Chairman, focusing on strategy and business development.

Current non-executive Director, Anthony Di Pietro, was elected unanimously to take over as Chairman at the end of the season.

“It’s been an amazing ride over the past 75 months, from when we first secured a playing licence from the FFA for Melbourne Victory.” Lord said.

“Who would have thought we would have managed to achieve what we have? It has been a fantastic experience for me.

"Two Championships, two Premierships, some amazing people and some amazing moments, have all contributed to a terrific journey.

“However, I believe now is the right time to take a different role. I’ve always wanted to ensure that I can commit as much as I possibly can to the football club, and it has certainly been a priority for me, but with other business interests, I feel that the time is right for change."

Incoming chairman Di Pietro has been on the board for the past five years and a Director of Premier Fruits since 1998, and appointed C.E.O. and Director of all Premier Group Companies in 2003.

“I’d like to thank Geoff Lord for what he has brought to this football club since its inception," said Di Pietro. "His vision and input both strategically and operationally has seen us reach great heights, and puts us in the fantastic position we are in today.

“I’m obviously very excited about the opportunity and thank the Board for their support of me. Melbourne Victory is a very important part of my life."
