Nigeria's Ahmed Musa dazzled in the Volgograd heat as his second-half double secured a 2-0 victory over Iceland in Group D.
As temperature's reached 30 degrees in the Russian City, the pacey striker burnt holes in Iceland's back line, which began to crumble after half-time.
At the other end, it was Iceland's talisman, Gylfi Sigurdsson, who melted under the sun, missing a late penalty which would have set up a tense finish.
The Super Eagles grew in confidence as the match wore on and will now reach the knockout stages if they beat Argentina on Tuesday.
Nigeria
Francis Uzoho - 6
The 19-year-old keeper was not afraid to come off his line at set plays. Repelled some pressure by punching balls away.
William Troost-Ekong - 7
Assured at the heart of a three-man defence. Showed controlled aggression to win the ball in the air and on the deck.
Leon Balogun - 7

Kenneth Omeruo - 7.5
Solid at the back and his distribution improved as the match went on. His ball into the channel set up Musa's second goal.
Brian Idowu - 5.5
Saw out his defensive duties in the left wing-back role but struggled to get forward. Subbed off at half-time.
Victor Moses -7
Found more space on the right in the second half and utilized it to set up Musa's opener. Led by example to drive the team forward.
John Obi Mikel -6.5
Looked far more comfortable in a deeper role. Kept things simple with some tidy passes at the base of midfield.
Wilfred Ndidi -6
Was bypassed at times in the first half as both teams went direct. Full of energy and made some important interceptions as the game opened up.

Full of energy and found more space to run into after the break. His confidence on the ball improved as the match wore on.
Ahmed Musa - 8.5
A constant threat, making menacing runs off the ball to stretch Iceland's backline . Deserved his two goals, both of which were finished superbly.
Kelechi Iheanacho - 7
Worked well with Musa as the pair created space for one another upfront.

A willing runner on the left of midfield but struggled to provide the width which would have stretched Nigeria's defence.

Gylfi Sigurdsson - 5.5
Set plays were always a threat. Missed the chance to put pressure on Nigeria when he skied a penalty over the bar.
Rurik Gislason - 6
Made some powerful runs with the ball at his feet, cutting in from the right. Couldn't produce a moment of quality in the final third though.

Worked hard and held the ball up well. Lacked options and support in the final third of the pitch.
