Irvine, 23, has been linked in the English press with Championship trio Huddersfield, Wolverhampton and Birmingham City after netting eight goals in his first six months in the division with Burton Albion.

Burton and Irvine confirmed there hadn’t been a concrete offer for his services, but the two parties had subsequently begun negotiating a new contract for the Australian.

Irvine only signed with Burton from Scottish club Ross County on a three-year deal in July.

“It is a compliment,” Irvine told FourFourTwo.

“Although at the moment it is rumours and speculation but it is something to be taken as a compliment as a reward for your good form.”

Irvine said he was committed to the Brewers, who are battling relegation in the second tier, but wouldn’t rule out a move if an actual offer came in.

“I’m comfortable and happy where I am,” Irvine said.

“If anything was to turn into something tangible, a real offer, things would be addressed at the time through the club and my representatives.

“At this time there’s been no approach to Burton for me. I’m fully focused on getting fit and getting back out there and steering us away from the bottom three.

“If anything was to change we’d deal with it when the time comes. Until then my full focus is with where I am at the moment.”

Irvine said there was no rush in completing negotiations around his new deal with Burton.

“Whenever there is any sort of reported interest, whether it’ll come to anything or not, the club wants to protect the players they’ve got so they offered me a new contract,” he said.

“There’s no great rush. I am only six months into a three-year deal. It’s not massively important at the moment.

“I’ve committed my long-term future to the club as it is. The rest of the negotiations are just to change a couple of things within that.”

Amid all the speculation and contract talks, Irvine has battled an adductor problem which has kept him out of his side’s past three fixtures.

He is hopeful of returning for Saturday’s league clash away to Massimo Luongo’s QPR.

Irvine has grabbed headlines with his goalscoring this season but said he believed he had improved his all-round game.

“There’s been elements in my play I’ve improved a lot,” he said.

“The goals will always be the thing that grabs headlines but even last season I was really happy with the way I’ve been playing over the past 18 months.

“I have been pleased with the way I’ve been playing.”
