Gary Van Egmond isn't impressed with what he's seen so far from his Argentine import Jorge Drovandi.
And he has vowed not to pick the wideman in his Jets lineup just because he is a Latin import.
“It doesn't mean because you're from South America that you're a walk up into the team. Jorge, on form, is out,” a blunt Van Egmond said today at the press conference to announce Mario Jardel's debut on the weekend.
When pressed, Van Egmond added: “That third of the park is a highly competitive area for us in terms of the players we have.
“The boys there have done well against Wellington which is a difficult place and they deserve their place.
“Hoffman and Elrich did well for us last round and until they're proven wrong, they'll remain there.”
Drovandi arrived just weeks before the start of the season and debuted as a 62nd minute sub in round one against Glory in Perth. He showed very little promise in that 0-0 encounter and has since been left out of the squad pending approval by the Jets supremo.
However, Van Egmond is happy with his new captain Jade North. “I'm a Jade North fan,” he said. “The captaincy sits well with him. I think he was unlucky not to be included in the Socceroo squad for the Argentina game.”
The Jets have an injury concern going into Saturday night's game against Adelaide United with Paul Kohler under a cloud.
