Speaking to au.fourfourtwo.com today the North Queensland chairman said he was delighted that the club's pursuit had ended in success and he looked forward to welcoming North to the club.

He said a lot of hard work had gone into the pursuit of North and it is thought a three year deal is on the table for the Socceroos defender.

Matheson sees North as not only a tremendous recruit on the pitch but also in helping to grow the game in North Queensland as a whole.

He said: "We see Jade as someone who fits the mould in terms of what we want as a marquee player.

"We admire his leadership abilities, his experience and his desire to help others.

"Here is someone with a real mindset to make a real difference."

North will play a key role in the club's commitment to give indigenous youngsters opportunities to shine.

Several other players are tantalisingly close to being unveiled by the club and Matheson admits the capture of North is certainly a big help in terms of recruiting further quality.

He said: "I believe that good players attract good players."

North told the Townsville Bulletin: "I loved every minute playing with Newcastle but I have always wanted to give something back to my community and this link with North Queensland will give me the opportunity to do just that."

North Queensland are expected to confirm the identities of the players already secured for the club's inaugural season in the next week or so.
