EXCLUSIVE: North Queensland FC admit they were priced out of the Shane Smeltz deal - but they say they'll bring a striker to Dairy Farmers with just as much A-League credibility.
"The striker Ian [Ferguson, NQ FC coach] has his eyes on comes recommended by several Socceroos," North Queensland franchise boss Don Matheson told au.fourfourtwo.com.
He adds the new forward will be an experienced goal-scorer who isn't Australian or British.
"We're happy with our model [of player recruitment] but good lucky to Smeltzy and the Gold Coast," said Matheson.
"Ian will continue to look at players who will suit playing up here in these conditions."
The club will announce its official name, logo and colours as planned on Thursday in Townsville, he added.
