Roar led 2-0 after eight minutes but a 15 minute burst from the Heart late in the second-half saw them turn the game on its head, scoring five goals to win the match 5-2.

Perth Glory capitalised on Roar’s slip up to move second on the table with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Central Coast Mariners.

Gold Coast United continued their surge up the table with a strong 3-1 win against Sydney FC on Saturday afternoon.

Melbourne Victory’s woes continue as they fell to Adelaide United at home whilst Newcastle Jets secured a commanding 4-0 win over the AIS.

Newcastle Jets secured a big win over the AIS in Canberra on Saturday afternoon thanks to a brace from Chris Payne and goals to Scott Pettit and Kyle Ewart.

The Jets were away right from the start when Chris Payne converted a spot-kick in the first minute of the game.

Payne caused havoc in the AIS defence throughout the opening stages of the game and was rewarded with a second goal on 34 minutes after converting a Pettit cross.

Pettit then got himself on the score sheet early in the second-half with a fantastic curling effort.

The result was put beyond doubt on 69 minutes when substitute Ewart ran onto a long goal-kick and converted past AIS goalkeeper Paul Izzo.

Gold Coast United held on strong to defeat Sydney FC on Saturday afternoon at Owen Park.

Gol Gol Mebrahtu opened the scoring for the hosts on 17 minutes with a classy finish.

But the lead was short-lived as Joel Chianese equalized just three minutes later, before Gold Coast re-took the lead five minutes after that through Kwame Yeboah.

Sydney FC searched for an equalizer late in the game but time and time again they were denied by Gold Coast goalkeeper Brendan White.

Despite the pressure Gold Coast held on and Chris Lucas sealed the win deep in stoppage time with a clever finish.

Central Coast Mariners Youth 1 (Duke 11’)
Stadium: 6PR Stadium

Ndumba Makeche scored an 87th minute winner to clinch a 2-1 victory for 10-man Perth Glory against Central Coast Mariners on Sunday afternoon.

Surprisingly it was the Mariners who took the lead on 11 minutes thanks to a neat finish from Mitchell Duke.

But only three minutes later the Glory were back level when Makeche slotted home the rebound of a Travis Dodd stike.

Glory pushed on for a second goal but Alec Jovic’s strike was tipped over the bar by Mariners goalkeeper Dylan Mitchell as well as Makeche’s shot going just millimetres wide of the post.

Perth was reduced to ten men on 65 minutes when Sam Mitchinson was deemed the last man by the referee.

But it didn’t stop them finding a winner with Makeche netting the winning goal with just three minutes left on the clock.

Adelaide United Youth 2 (Watson 58’, Kirk 66’)
Stadium: Kingston Heath Soccer Complex

Adelaide United recorded a 2-1 away win over bottom of the table Melbourne Victory on Sunday afternoon.

Victory boasted the likes of Jean-Carlos Solorzano, Marco Rojas and Isaka Cernak but was still unable to pick up their first points of the season.

After a goalless first-half Cameron Watson opened the scoring for Adelaide just before the hour-mark.

Teeboy Kamara squared the ball to Camerton Watson who had the simple task of tapping the ball into an empty net.

United had a man sent off just moments later when Anthony Golec was adjudged to have stopped a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

It didn’t matter though as Dion Kirk went on to double the visitors lead five minutes later.

Daniel Chaabani clawed one back for Victory with fifteen minutes remaining but United held on to take all three points back to Adelaide.

Melbourne Heart Youth 5 (Williams 70’, 88’, Z. Walker 75’,76’,85’)
Stadium: Cleveland Showgrounds

Melbourne Heart produced a stunning comeback against Brisbane Roar on Sunday afternoon, coming from 2-0 down at the break to win 5-2.

Heart got off to a disastrous start as Josh Groenwald netted an own goal on just four minutes before Matthew Thurtle made it 2-0 on eight minuted.

Roar led 2-0 at the break but they had no idea what was about to happen in the second half.

Heart pushed for a way back into the game and was rewarded when David Williams pulled one back on 70 minutes.

Substitute Zac Walker continued his brilliant form off the bench and scored the equalizer just five minutes later.

Brisbane’s defence imploded as just a minute later Zac Walker clinched his second and remarkably put the Heart into the lead.

The league-leaders weren’t done there as Walker secured his hat-trick on 85 minutes before David Williams put the result beyond doubt shortly after.
