Central Coast Mariners v Sydney FC
Sydney FC made it three wins from three to start the season with another strong performance against the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday. Anthony Tomelic found the net for the Sky Blues just five minutes into the contest with a stunning strike from outside the box. Steve Corica’s men went in to the break with the lead, but Patrick Kwaanswijk’s words to his Mariners at half-time seemed to pay off immediately. Joshua Forbes got his head on the end of a Jesse Curran free-kick to level the scores, but just three minutes later Sydney restored their lead. Daniel Petkovski broke down the left and shot past Mariners goalkeeper David Bradasevic to score what proved to be the winning goal.

AIS v Perth Glory
The Australian Institute of Sport put in a ruthless performance to dispose of last -placed Perth Glory 5-2. Anthony Kalik opened the scoring after 11 minutes for AIS when he converted a spot-kick he had won, before Matthew Schmidt doubled their lead minutes later with a looping header over Glory goalkeeper Luke Radonich. Ben Warland made it 3-0 on the half-hour mark with a header from a cross. AIS got their fourth just after the hour mark through Marc Marino before an own-goal by Jordan Pudler and an effort by Darcy Cosgrove brought the scores back to 4-2 with 15 minutes to go. The AIS held on to their lead and even extended it in injury-time, once again through Marino.

Adelaide United v Newcastle Jets
An own-goal by Nicholas Cowburn in the seventh minute was enough for Adelaide United to record their first win of the 2013-14 season. Adelaide did it the hard way after playing with 10-men for the majority of the second-half following the expulsion of Cam Watson. The only goal of the game came when Matthew Bouzalas’ shot was deflected off Cowburn and past a helpless Ben Kennedy in the Newcastle goals. Cobwurn almost made up for the own-goal late in the game but his long-range effort cannoned off the crossbar and stayed out.

Western Sydney Wanderers v Brisbane Roar
Brisbane Roar secured their first win of the season with a strong performance against Western Sydney Wanderers at Marconi Stadium. Shannon Brady gave the away side the lead midway through the first-half, pouncing on the rebound after Patrick Theodore forced Wanderers goalkeeper Thomas Manos into a save. Jai Ingham doubled the Roar’s lead 10 minutes later with a fine finish from the edge of the 18-yard box. Brisbane extended their lead to 3-0 late in the second-half once again through Ingham, before the Wanderers found a consolation goal deep in to injury-time through Shannon D’Cunha.

Melbourne Victory v Melbourne Heart
Melbourne Victory ended rival’s Melbourne Heart’s perfect start to the season, and jumped them on the ladder, following a 2-0 win at Lakeside Stadium on Sunday evening. It was a dire encounter for the most part, but Victory stood up when it counted to secure the three points. Victory boasted the likes of Gui Finkler, Nick Ansell, Scott Galloway and Andrew Nabbout in their line-up and looked the more likely to score throughout the encounter. They left it late to do so though, with Nabbout finally breaking the deadlock just four minutes from time with a fine finish past Heart goalkeeper Marko Stevanja. Makarounas made sure of the result in stoppage-time with a low shot in to the bottom corner.
