Spurs arrived home after their pre-season tour of Melbourne where Onomah impressed against Juventus and Atletico Madrid, striking the crossbar early in the latter game.

With the teenager coming through Spurs’ academy system, it would be understandable if few fans at the International Champions Cup matches even know who he was to begin with.

However the 19-year-old drew comparisons to Kane and Alli’s obscurity two years ago.

“Harry came through the academy and I used to play with him a few times in the reserves and to see him achieve these great things just shows anything is possible,” Onomah told FourFourTwo.

“Same with Dele, he was playing League One two seasons ago and the season he had last time was unbelievable. It just shows if you work hard, put your mind to it anything can happen.”

Onomah made eight appearances for Tottenham in the Premier League last season and was hoping his performances in the preseason demonstrated his seriousness.

He also believed manager Mauricio Pochettino was the right man for the Spurs job and had nothing but admiration for the Argentinian.

“The gaffer just says keep on working hard, listen in and you never know what could happen. When he says that to you, it gives you great confidence,” he said.

“He makes it seem like everyone’s a family and that’s what you need when it comes to winning games, do things together and you want everyone to be united. We’re a good team because of it, he’s just a great lad and it’s a happy place to be.

“Last season I played quite a bit and I’m thankful for the gaffer for that and this season I set myself goals to get more game time and see where it goes from there.”

Tottenham look to improve on the super season they just had in the Premier League and aim to finish in the top two in the upcoming campaign.

Onomah said pre-season presented a significant opportunity as he looks to being involved more in the upcoming domestic campaign.

“We hope to do better than last season, that’s our goal,” he said.

“We take every game as it comes. Obviously you hope to win every game and you hope to see what happens from there.

“Pre-season is always important for Tottenham, we aim to get fit, work hard and learn what the gaffer wants and how he wants us to play.

“It’s been important for us, I’m thankful Australia has welcomed us and we look to start the season now.”
