In the English Premier League, Adam Federici had a fine game between the sticks as Reading recorded their first win of the season with a 2-1 triumph over Everton. Federici had a busy first half to repel the rampant Everton with good save to deny Phil Jagielka’s close range shot and a stunning save to deny Leon Osman’s powerful strike.

Mark Schwarzer played a full game in goal as Fulham slipped to a disappointing 3-1 loss at home to Sunderland. Schwarzer, who made a fine stop from a curling Adam Johnson strike, could do nothing to prevent 3 goals from the Black Cats.

Brett Holman was a 62nd minute substitute as Aston Villa were thumped 5-0 by champions Manchester City. Holman did have one chance in the 84th minute as his stinging 25 metre shot just cleared the crossbar. Chris Herd was absent from the Villa match-day squad.

Brad Jones's extended run in the Liverpool side came to an end, as regular number one Pepe Reina returned to the starting line-up in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic.

In the Championship, Shane Lowry’s good form continued, playing 90 minutes and providing an assist in Millwall’s 1-0 win over Leeds United. On 85 minutes, Lowry sent in an inch perfect cross from the left which was headed home by New Zealand International Chris Wood. Patrick Kisnorbo was an unused substitute for Leeds.

Mile Jedinak played the full 90 minutes as Crystal Palace remained top with a 3-0 win over Derby County. Jedinak nearly found the back of the net late in the first half as his header from Andrew Mortiz’s corner fell just wide.

Scott McDonald put in a full shift in attack as Middlesbrough suffered their first defeat in 9 matches following a 1-0 loss to Cardiff. McDonald had 3 good chances throughout the game but couldn’t beat Cardiff ‘keeper David Marshall as a wasteful Boro dropped a spot to third. Rhys Williams missed the clash through injury.

Neil Kilkenny started and was replaced in second half stoppage time as Bristol City conceded a last gasp goal to draw 1-1 with Blackpool, a result which keeps them firmly entrenched in the relegation zone. Kilkenny had a busy shift, with his best moment coming after 10 minutes when his 30 metre rocket struck the crossbar.

In League One, Dean Bouzanis played a full game in goal and saved a penalty as Oldham lost 4-1 to Bournemouth. Bouzanis faced an onslaught in the second half as his defence capitulated, conceding all 4 goals after the break. Bouzanis pulled off a superb penalty save to deny Harry Arter, however Lewis Grabban recovered quickest to tap home and complete his hat trick. Alex Cisak was an unused substitute for Oldham while James Wesolowski missed the game through suspension.

Elsewhere, Bailey Wright was an unused substitute as Preston North End drew 1-1 with Brentford, while Shane Cansdell-Sherriff missed the clash through injury.

In League Two, Aaron Downes played 90 minutes as Torquay were thumped 4-1 at home by Southend , while James Meredith missed Bradford City’s disappointing 1-0 loss at home to Exeter.

Jamie Young played a full game in goal as Aldershot Town moved off the bottom of the table with a 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon.

In the Scottish Premier League, Dylan McGowan made his first league start for Hearts in their 1-0 win over St Mirren. McGowan put in a full shift in midfield while brother Ryan McGowan also played the full 90 minutes as Hearts moved up to seventh.

Elsewhere, Alex Baird was an unused substitute as bottom placed Dundee FC secured a shock 3-1 win over league leaders Hibernian.

In the Scottish Second Division, Marc Warren played the full 90 minutes as Airdrie United drew 1-1 Cowdenbeath.

In the German Bundesliga, Robbie Kruse continued his good form, playing 90 minutes and earning a penalty in Fortuna Dusseldorf’s 2-1 loss to Werder Bremen. Kruse embarked on a speedy run down the right in the opening 10 minutes, before cutting inside, only to be hacked down in the area by Bremen defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos. The penalty was duly converted by Jens Langeneke. Kruse also provided a golden chance for striker Ken Islo with a pinpoint cross but the Danish striker couldn’t convert the opportunity.

Nikita Rukavytsya was an unused substitute as FSV Mainz lost 1-0 to Hamburg. Elsewhere, Mitch Langerak was an unused substitute as Borussia Dortmund beat Greuther Furth 3-1.

In the German Second Division, Mathew Leckie found the back of the net in FSV Frankfurt’s 2-1 loss to Dynamo Dresden. Leckie, buoyed by his Socceroos debut in midweek, caused the Dresden defence all sorts of problems with his pace and dribbling, two attributes which were the catalysts for his goal on 64 minutes, as he received the ball on right, cut inside before finishing past the advancing Dresden ‘keeper.

In the German Third Division, Mustafa Amini was a half time substitute as Borussia Dortmund II beat Hallescher FC 1-0.

In the Dutch Eredivisie, Tommy Oar continued his fine form, playing 90 minutes and making an assist in FC Utrecht’s 1-1 draw with FC Twente. Oar’s reputation as a set-piece specialist continues to grow, as his perfectly placed free kick from the right was nodded home by Jacob Mulenga. Michael Zullo came on in the 64th minute, while Adam Sarota missed the clash with a knee injury.

Elsewhere, Jason Davidson was an unused substitute as Heracles hammered Roda Kerkrade 5-1, while Travis Cooper was absent from the match-day squad as VVV Venlo lost 2-0 to Ajax.

In the Dutch Second Division, Corey Gameiro was absent from the match-day squad as FC Eindhoven drew 2-2 with FC Emmen. Also missing was Andrew Marveggio as SC Telstar played out a 0-0 draw with BV Veendam. 

In the Italian Serie A, James Troisi was an unused substitute as Atalanta were thumped 4-1 by Fiorentina.

In the Serie B, Carl Valeri was absent from the match-day squad as Sassuolo drew 1-1 with Brescia.

In the Greek Super League, Apostolis Giannou came on in the 65th minute but could do nothing to prevent PAOK slipping to a 2-0 defeat against Panathinaikos.

In Austria, James Holland was absent from the match-day squad as Austria Wien beat Wiener Neustadt 3-0.

In the Danish Superliga, Brent McGrath was an 87th minute substitute as Brondby returned to the bottom of the table following a 2-2 draw with Esbjerg. 

In the Belgian Second Division, Kofi Danning was an unused substitute as CS Vise beat Dessel Sport 2-1.

In Russia, Luke Wilkshire was absent with a hamstring injury as Dinamo Moscow & Zenit St Petersburg’s clash was abandoned after 36 minutes following crowd trouble.

In Croatia, Steven Lustica was a 75th minute substitute as Hajduk Split played out a 0-0 draw with Lokomotiva Zagreb. Elsewhere, Tomi Juric was an 80th minute substitute as Inter Zapresic beat Istra 1961 2-0.

In Serbia, Eli Babalj was an unused substitute as Red Star Belgrade recovered from 2-1 down to beat fierce rivals Partizan Belgrade 3-2. Elsewhere, midfielder Matthew Byrne was absent from the match-day squad as Donji Srem lost 2-1 to BSK Borca.

In the J-League, Josh Kennedy was again absent through injury as Nagoya Grampus remained in the hunt for a Champions League spot with a 2-0 win over Jubilo Iwata. Elsewhere, due to a niggly injury Jade North  was rested as his club Consadole Sapporo lost 3-2 to Sagan Tosu.

In the K-League, Alex Wilkinson played the full 90 minutes in defence as Jeonbuk Motors lost 3-2 to Pohang Steelers. Elsewhere, Brendan Hamill was absent from the match-day squad as Seongnam threw away a 3-0 lead to lose 4-3 to Gwangju.

Adrian Madaschi played the full 90 minutes and scored an unfortunate own goal as Jeju United beat Matt McKay’s Busan I’Park 2-1. McKay was absent from the match-day squad through injury.

Eddy Bosnar put in a full shift in defence as Suwon Bluewings played out a 0-0 draw with Ulsan Hyundai. In the UAE, Richard Porta put in a full shift in attack as Dubai drew 1-1 with Al Dhafra. Alex Brosque was a 71st minute substitute as Al Ain thumped Ittihad Kalba 6-0, while Lucas Neill put in a full shift as Al Wasl lost 2-1 to Dubba Al Fujairah.

In the Qatar Stars League, Sasa Ognenovski played 90 minutes as Umm Salal beat Al Sailiya 3-2. Elsewhere, Matt Spiranovic was absent from the match-day squad as Al Arabi were beaten 3-0 by Al Jaish.
