The former Everton, Arsenal and Charlton forward has signed a three-year deal and will go straight into the squad for the Owls' Coca-Cola Championship season opener at Ipswich on Saturday.

Owls manager Brian Laws said: "I'm delighted to have secured a player of Francis Jeffers' calibre here at Hillsborough.

"Francis has spent most of his career in the Premier League because of the quality that he possesses and I believe he can be a regular scorer with us in the Championship.

"We've been looking to secure a top quality striker over the summer and we certainly have that now, going into the new season, which is a really big boost for Sheffield Wednesday."

Jeffers, 26, moved from Everton to Arsenal as a 19-year-old for $20million in June 2001, while Charlton paid $6.5million to their London rivals for his services in August 2004.
