The match was delayed by around 10 minutes after the defender fell to the turf off the ball midway through the first half and appeared to lose consciousness.

The 31-year-old Turk appeared to be receiving heart massage treatment from medical staff before leaving the pitch on a stretcher.

There was briefly a question mark over whether the match would resume, but a thumbs up from a member of the medical team on the sideline and a stadium announcement assured fans and players that Umit's condition was not as bad as first feared.

And although Ozat remains in hospital on Saturday, coach Christoph Daum revealed the player is in good spirits.

"I went to visit the fighter Umit in hospital, and what he wanted most of all was to get out of bed and be back on the football field," Daum said.

"His immediate concern was about the match and the result rather than his state of health."

Yet Daum added there would be no celebrating until Umit was given the all-clear.

"Above and beyond the victory and the great achievement of the team, I will only be satisfied when Umit is back on his feet again," the coach added.
