Guidolin was hanging onto his job by a thread going into the weekend's fixtures, and a 3-2 home defeat by Genoa - his side's third successive loss - spelt the end of his tenure.

Former boss Stefano Colantuono will retake the reins.

A short statement on the club's website, www.ilpalermocalcio.it, confirmed Guidolin's dismissal on Monday.

It read: "Palermo, having looked at the situation through the board, have realised, in the light of recent events, that conditions don't exist to sustain faith in Francesco Guidolin who therefore, from today, has been relieved of his post as first team coach.

"The responsibility will be passed to Stefano Colantuono who will lead tomorrow afternoon's training and will meet the press at the end."

This is the third time in a year that Palermo have sacked Guidolin.

The coach was fired last April only to be recalled after two successive defeats before being sacked again at the end of the season.

Guidolin was back in the Palermo hotseat in November to replace Colantuono - the man who replaced him on Monday.
