au.fourfourtwo.com was asked by organisers last week in Honolulu about the viability of NSW as a venue for a second Pan Pacs in 2009.

This follows a disappointing tournament. Crowds were not what was expected at the Aloha stadium while minimal media coverage on the holiday island did not help.

What's more, Honolulu public transportation system was virtually non-existent.

No train network in Honolulu meant an overstretched bus system barely coped with the estimated 10,000 fans for the first match and around 15,000 for the second.

It was a three hour round trip for fans who wanted to see the games at the baseball and NFL stadium.

Other concerns centred on the pitch. The “FieldTurf” surface – a variation of astro turf – was not liked by most players with Sydney FC complaining their players were stiff and sore after training on it for about an hour.

This was a sentiment echoed by LA Galaxy coach Ruud Gullit who said the pitch – which had a number of baseball markings on it - “wasn't ideal”.

If there is a tournament in 2009, it may also feature clubs from South Korea and New Zealand.
