Muscat felled the Socceroo and Gold Coast United skipper with the disguised blow during the terse match between Victory and Gold Coast United on Friday night.

The ban means Muscat will miss next weekend's game against North Queensland Fury and the possible Premiership decider against Sydney FC on February 14.

And Gold Coast United hardman Steve Pantelidis could be out for the rest of the season after he copped a five match ban for his off the ball swipe at Robbie Kruse earlier in the spiteful match.

Kruse later had to come off with a shoulder injury sustained in the clash which was missed by the ref.

The match review panel today handed down the suspensions after studying video of the incidents.

A statement from the FFA this evening said: "As the incident escaped the attention of the referee, the MRP has the authority to consider the incident.

"In reviewing the incident, the MRP alleges that Steve Pantelidis had committed the offence of 'Assault on a Player (e.g. violent conduct when not challenging for the ball)' against Robbie Kruse and proposed a sanction of five matches.

"This is three additional matches to the two match minimum sanction for such an offence. The player has until 1:00pm tomorrow to accept the proposed sanction or refer the matter to a hearing by the FFA Disciplinary Committee."

It added: "[In] the incident involving Kevin Muscat...the MRP alleges that Muscat had committed the offence of "Serious Foul Play (e.g. when challenging for the ball)" against Jason Culina and proposed a sanction of two matches.

"This is oneĀ  additional match to the one match minimum sanction for such an offence.

"The player has until 12:00 noon tomorrow to accept the proposed sanction or refer the matter to a hearing by the FFA Disciplinary Committee. "

Melbourne Victory this evening said they would consider an appeal overnight before making a final decision tomorrow morning.
