EXCLUSIVE: Lucas Pantelis has hailed Sasa Ognenovski as the A-League's defender of the season as the Korean-bound rock prepares to face former club Queensland Roar.
Ognenovski is being strongly tipped for inclusion in Pim Verbeek's Socceroos squad next week for the Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia.
United vice-skipper Pantelis says it isn't his job to tell Verbeek which players to pick but there would be no complaints if big Sash gets the nod.
Pantelis told au.fourfourtwo.com today: "I think Sasa has been the stand-out defender for me in the A-League this season and for his contribution in Asia as well.
"I'm not the national coach and he makes the decisions. Time will tell whether Sasa gets in or not.
"But whether he does or whether he doesn't, he is the sort of guy that just seems to take things as they come."
Before United's players can start thinking of international accolades, there is the small matter of the A-League campaign to finish.
Pantelis is eagerly looking forward to Wednesday night's clash with Queensland Roar at Hindmarsh Stadium and knows how much is at stake.
He said: "I think it's the team with the best home record against the team with the best away record isn't it?
"Both teams know what a win could do for their chances. If we win then we're four points clear of Melbourne with two games to play. If Queensland win, then they will feel they have every chance.
"Hopefully our fans will be out in numbers again. They've been fantastic this season.
"The fact we had 23,000 at Adelaide Oval and then 13,000 for the Newcastle game just shows how this city has embraced Adelaide United."
Pantelis scored the second goal in that win over the Jets after returning from injury but said it wasn't about personal glory.
He said: "It was great to see the ball go in (off the post) but it's not about me it's about the team and getting three points for the team."
