A double from Yohan Cabaye and Papiss Cisse's 11th goal in just 10 games since his January move to Tyneside sealed the win against the Potters.

And, despite having seen his side keep their 14th clean sheet this season, the Newcastle manager singled out attackers Cabaye, Cisse, Demba Ba and Hatem Ben Arfa for praise.

"We have got momentum and that is a dangerous tool to have in your locker," Pardew said.

"We are playing with confidence and we have got ourselves into a fantastic position, perhaps even better than we thought it might have been and the confidence is there for everyone to see on the pitch.

"This is not about one player or one person, it is the combination of a lot of things that have gone on at this football club from Mike Ashley down and everyone deserves the credit they are getting.

"Everyone is contributing. To win six on the trot is truly outstanding by the players. They will get a few plaudits this week and they deserve them.

"We haven’t sent any message out. We are just doing what we do. Our work ethic was the same but it was our four-pronged attack that won us the game - Cabaye, Cisse, Demba and Hatem really were in irrepressible form at times."

Pardew's men will head to relegation-threatened Wigan next Saturday with their tails up.

“To get into the Europa League is a big, big achievement by us and to finish above Liverpool regardless of their Cup exploits is still an outstanding achievement whatever we do this season," he continued.

“But we can feel it in the crowd and the city that there is a chance for us to do something really special and we go to Wigan trying to achieve that. The city haven't lost sight that there is a chance for us to do something really special.”

Meanwhile, Stoke City manager Tony Pulis lamented striker Jon Walters' failure to make the most of his chances.

The Potters boss insisted Walters could have helped himself to a hat-trick.

"I have had a look at the statistics and had some good opportunities today and Jon Walters really could have scored a hat-trick," Pulis said.

"The main difference is that they got into good goal-scoring opportunities and hit the target. We got good opportunities and never hit the target. I don’t think their keeper had a save to make.

"I am not picking on Jon. He has been fantastic for us. He is a great lad and he kept going and kept going but he had three chances by himself, never mind the rest of the team.

Despite the comprehensive nature of the defeat, Pulis refused to be too downhearted, citing his side's rise in recent years.

"We are getting a little bit greedy," Pulis added.

"We have been in the Premier League for four years now and we are nice and comfortable with six or seven goals to go.

“We have been to three FA Cup quarter-finals and a quarter-final of the League Cup, we have been to a semi-final of the FA Cup, a final of the FA Cup and the last 32 of the Europe. It has not been a bad four years. We mustn't get greedy."
