McIntyre's late spot-kick secured a 1-0 win for underdogs Dunfermline against Hibernian at Hampden.

Kenny said: "It's tremendous, brilliant, a brilliant win. It's great for the players - they deserve it."

Of the penalty, he said: "Jim did it in a Fife Cup match against Raith Rovers. I understood why he would do it in that, but to do it in a semi-final at Hampden that's a different kettle of fish altogether. It was a tremendous finish."

He added: "It was a tremendous performance from the players, they were relentless. Hibs are just so difficult to play against because they interchange positions and they're tactically very astute. We just held in there.

"Dorus de Vries was tremendous in goal, and the back four got some unbelievable clearances off the line. We had a few chances ourselves that we didn't take. When you play Hearts, Hibs, Rangers and Partick Thistle and you're in the final, that's earning the right to be in the final."

Dunfermline will face Celtic in the May 26 final, and also go into the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Cup.

Goalscorer McIntyre told BBC Radio Scotland he would not try the penalty routine in future, fearing another goalkeeper would not be fooled.

He said: "I'll not be doing it again that's for sure. It's been televised.

"We've got the champions to face now but if you look at teams we've put out on one-off occasions we've been up for it."
