The two expansion clubs have been engaged in a bitter public row over the scheduling of a pre-season game between the two sides in recent weeks.

Originally set for Cairns in the state's north, the match will now be played on the Gold Coast on June 23. The reshuffle in dates and locations prompted a series of barbs from the respective club's owners with both trading acerbic press releases.

Fraser says it's good for the game and shows the passion the two new clubs have. He also believes what was originally a minor scheduling story has given both clubs added publicity during the long off-season.

"It's good, I think it's what football's all about. Football's a passionate game and I don't think we want vanilla owners," he told au.fourfourtwo.com. "We want people who are passionate who stand up for themselves

"It's probably sharpened up the game that's round two at Skilled Park for them. It's healthy, it livens it up and something for the fans to look forward to.

"A little bit of niggle is good for the game."

The A-League kicks off on August 6 with the reigning champions Melbourne Victory taking on Central Coast at Etihad Stadium and Scottish-born Fraser is tipping a strong start across the league.

He added: "The first round is just a great round of football and I think we'll get great crowds and it's going to build from there."

The round one blockbuster between Gold Coast and Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium however will be played 24 hours after an NRL game, putting a dampener on what should be a marquee event.

Fraser concedes it's not ideal but says FFA will work closely with Suncorp to ensure the surface is the best it can be for the fixture.

"We want to work with the stadium to make sure it's in good shape for a 30,000 plus crowd for that local derby," he said. "It's such an important showcase for the game that Saturday at Suncorp."
