A few cheap penalty shouts and a couple of guilt-edged chances couldn't separate the sides at HBF Park, Perth Glory hanging onto first by a whisker with a 0-0 draw against Adelaide United.
Perth Glory
Liam Reddy - 6
Failed to hold onto a couple of average efforts, nearly costing his team.
Alex Grant - 8
As Adelaide pushed forward, his physicality became important and the big fella put in a determined shift. Finally showing the potential he once had at Stoke City under the defensive nous of Tony Popovic.
Shane Lowry - 8
Very capable defending, especially in the air. Quick to read Isaias' long passes and block off Ryan Kitto's runs down the flank.
Dino Djulbic - 8
Man on a mission in the first 45 minutes, sending a few headers careening over the bar and forcing Paul Izzo into a decent save. Lost his head a little in the second.
Ivan Franjic - 6
He didn’t push forward as effectively as he can and became increasingly anonymous.
Jason Davidson - 6
After the season he’s had so far, the first half was a little disappointing. He mopped up well defensively in the second but was left frustrated in his forward passing.
Juande - 8
This is the sort of quality we want to see from the star Spaniard! Placed a few excellent passes, dictated tempo, involved in nearly everything. Played so well the referee even ignored a clear penalty. Gave the ball away a few times late on, but we'll chuck it down to fatigue.
Neil Kilkenny - 7
Very rough and ready in a tantalising match-up with Isaias, choosing to go down the physical route against his technical opponent. Still played some excellent balls.
Brendon Santalab - 6
Missed a couple of clear chances but was lively nonetheless.
Joel Chianese - 7
Played creator, looking full of confidence under Tony Popovic this season, but couldn't exhibit real quality in the final third.
Jake Brimmer - 7
Showed a few glimpses of his attacking quality but over-hit a few passes and failed to run down a few balls.
Subs
Diego Castro - 6
Gave the ball away cheaply and held it at the wrong times. Also copped a few cheap fouls, just not at the races.
Andy Keogh - 7
Worked equally hard to Castro, but was far more effective in possession as well as defensively.
Scott Neville - 7
Very solid in the time he had off the bench.
Adelaide United
Paul Izzo - 7
Pulled off a few fantastic saves.
Ryan Strain - 7
He’s been in and out of the squad recently as Marco Kurz experiments with his best squad. Against a very strong opposition, he proved himself an effective transition specialist.
Scott Galloway - 7
It’s interesting to see the continued development of perennial A-League squad players, but he wasn’t quite the electric fullback we’ve come to expect this season.
Jordan Elsey - 7
Looked a little out of his depth against Djulbic in the backline, but when he pushed forward from a couple of corners it was suddenly a different story.
Michael Marrone - 6
He kept the pressure on Perth by holding a high line but didn't accomplish much.
Vince Lia - 7
He’s played a very important, versatile role all season and he did so again with aplomb against the Glory.
Nathan Konstandopoulos - 7
Very tenacious, booked early for some over-eagerness but had a decent performance overall.
Isaías - 7
Outdone physically by Neil Kilkenny, but showing his quality still managed to exert some influence. Ended up nearly earning a penalty in the final moments of the first half.
Ben Halloran - 6
Chased down everything and almost robbed Reddy, but doesn't quite have that striker's touch.
Nikola Mileusnic - 6
Very quiet, couldn't influence proceedings.
Craig Goodwin - 6
While his build up play and run-making proved effective, his final decisions left a little to be desired.
Subs
Ken Ilso - 6
Very little influence despite a solid half an hour off the bench.
Ryan Kitto - 8
Fantastic runs, great speed down the flanks.
