Petrovic was officially unveiled before the media today after the Serbian football association's quick decision to bring in the 55-year-old to replace Radomir Antic.

Petrovic already knows a number of the national team players from his time in charge of the Serbia and Montenegro Under-21s and admits he is likely to call on them in their next qualifier against Estonia on October 8.

"I know all the players, but I only have a very short period in front of me so I do not want to change the playing staff," he said.

"I believe that my main goal is to fix the atmosphere in the national team and to qualify for the European Championship finals in Poland and Ukraine."

Petrovic's contract runs until the end of the Euro 2012 qualifiers, although it will be extended should Serbia qualify for the finals.

He was handed the post immediately after Antic was fired on Wednesday after he followed his World Cup failure with a 1-1 home draw to Slovenia in their second Euro 2012 qualifier.
