EXCLUSIVE: Despite the heart-breaking penalty shootout loss to Melbourne in the Pre-Season Cup final, Phoenix officials were ecstatic about the interest the final stirred up in Union-dominated New Zealand.

"We're very happy. The crowd was brilliant and so was the atmosphere," Nix CEO Tony Pignata told au.fourfourtwo.com after the game.
"To get over 9,000 fans on a Wednesday night is very encouraging and to have it live on SKY TV must've been very exciting."
Phoenix lost out 7-8 on penalties after it was 0-0 following 90 fairly dull minutes of football.
"We can take positives out of the game," added Pignata.
The club's CEO also confirmed that defender Tony Lochhead continues to train with English Premier League club Middlesbrough and a decision on his future will be decided by this weekend.
Pignata also strongly hinted that the club wanted to sign VPL trialist Manny Muscat, who was once again impressive in his role at right back. "He was outstanding," added Pignata.
