The club are in the final stages of a $1million deal to bring Becks and co over the ditch to play in the New Zealand capital.

Galaxy are already teed up to play Sydney FC at Telstra Stadium in November, but it’s not yet clear if the Phoenix match will be before or after that game.

Tickets for the Sydney tie – now set to feature French legend Zinedine Zidane in the local side’s line-up – went on sale last week...and 40,000 were sold within minutes of being available.

Now New Zealand football chiefs are hoping to repeat Sydney’s success in Wellington.

But Phoenix have insisted the deal only goes ahead on the proviso that England hero and former Manchester United and Real Madrid star David Beckham plays in the tie.

An announcement on the game is tipped to be made by Phoenix next week.

Phoenix admitted today: "The club can confirm that it has expressed an interest in bringing the LA Galaxy to the capital for an exhibition match later this year.

"The American club has confirmed it will play Hyundai A-League club Sydney FC in Sydney on November 27.

"Wellington Phoenix FC’s discussions with LA Galaxy management are at an early stage and Phoenix management, coaches and players have no further comment to make on the matter at this point."
