Wellington’s Australian midfielder Richard Johnson says his side won’t be holding back against reigning champions Melbourne Victory on Sunday.
The former Newcastle and New Zealand Knights player is hoping a positive result will set the club on a roll.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better game really. The first game in Wellington against the defending champs... hopefully we’ll have a bumper crowd,” he said.
“Everyone’s really excited. Being our first home game we want to put on a performance. We don’t want to go into the game to try and sneak a draw or anything, we’ll definitely be going for the win and I think we’re capable of that.”
Johnson believes Melbourne’s strike force remains their biggest asset.
“It’s difficult this year because Melbourne are a fairly different team without Fred. Obviously they’ve still got Danny and Archie bangin’ in goals so they’re still going to be up there.”
