A warm and muggy Thursday night saw the start of the Summer Football Festival, with the Roar hosting the Glory on a pitch that somewhat resembled a cow paddock.
Brisbane managed to take control for most of the game, back to their former best with some quick breaks that were matched sporadically by smart Glory play.
Heading into this one, the head to head record was not pretty reading for the visitors, taking just four wins from 18. Thursday night saw the return of so many of those players essential to the smooth running of their respective sides.
The game turned on its head 15 minutes from the end, with the Glory taking the game by the neck, scoring the leveller through Andy Keogh, and the sealer through Spaniard Diego Castro. Fox Sports revealed that Brisbane Roar have sought the insights of medical professionals to get to the bottom of why so many injuries have been suffered by their players in recent times.
BRISBANE ROAR
Jamie Young - 7
Showed his brave goalkeeping traits many times, managing to defend the Roar goal, for the most part.
Jack Hingert - 4
Took far too long to play in his teammates in open spaces, and failed to pounce on opportunities to get forward. Somewhat strong defensive showing nonetheless.
Jacob Pepper – 6.5
Has showed his adaptability, with some solid defensive displays in the last few weeks, and tonight was no different.
Luke Devere - 7
Back for his first senior game since October. Forced off through injury late on, yet a typical solid game.
Corey Brown - 6
Some positive attacking runs and crosses lacked the quality they needed to find his teammates in the box.
Thomas Kristensen – 5.5
Back for his first game since April, the Dane is still regaining his fitness, which will come with time. Back for the Roar in a crucial time, and showed the quality they’ve been missing.
Nicholas D’Agostino – 7
Had a few promising chances, but was far too powerful and lacked composure in the crucial moments.
Matt McKay - 5
The Roar skipper with the everlasting engine kept his midfield in check, but failed to create something with any spark and stayed quiet.
Petros Skapetis - 6
After a positive start which saw the winger come close to netting a goal, Skapetis was pulled as the Roar looked for more goals.

Massimo Maccarone - 8
The league is lucky to have a striker like Maccarone. To many, tonight’s performance could’ve been scrutinised, however it is the striker’s little touches and top-class distribution that is easily overlooked.
Fahid Ben Khalfallah – 6.5
Played with aggression and a desire to claim all three points, which was good to see. Fast paced play, yet couldn’t link up with his teammates in crucial moments.
SUBSTITUTES
Mitch Oxborrow – N/A
Didn’t catch the eye with any play with limited time, therefore not warranting a rating.
Corey Gamiero – 7
Brought some bite to the attack for Brisbane, but his attacking counterparts failed to convert.
Connor O’Toole – N/A
Didn’t catch the eye with any play with limited time, therefore not warranting a rating.
Perth Glory
Liam Reddy- 6
One of the A-League’s bravest keepers was forced off through injury after a collision with Corey Brown, and managed to stop many goal scoring opportunities.
Jeremy Walker – 6.5
Fresh from being rewarded with a contract extension, Walker managed to show his attacking danger and matched it with some smart defensive play.
Jacob Poscoliero – 6.5
Distribution was great, opening his defensive position to receive passes back before creating the attack.
Shane Lowry - 7
Fearless play once again. Top notch.
Joe Mills - 7
Showed his attacking smarts, wipping some dangerous balls across the face, which were begging to be attacked by a Glory attacker. Was an ever-present threat out wide for the Glory and was always an option on the left going forward and in defence as well.
Chris Harold – 6
Stayed quiet, didn’t manage to create many chances for the Glory attackers.
Andreu – 5
Back in the lineup for the Glory but stayed quiet, with most of the midfield play running through Brandon Wilson.
Brandon Wilson – 7.5
For a 20-year-old, his play represents the strength and maturity of someone much further on from a higher level.
Diego Castro - 8
The magician worked all of his Spanish magic, coming up with the assist for the Andy Keogh goal, before snatching all three points with a smashing close-range finish.
Joseph Knowles - 5
Didn’t cause the Roar any real problems, and failed to meet any fast balls into the box.
Mitch Nichols - 7
Kenny Lowe gave the former Roar midfielder the attacking freedom to roam up and down the line up Brisbane defenders, and managed to cause some problems.

SUBSTITUTES
Andy Keogh – 7.5
Showed his hunger after coming on as a half-time substitute and immediately became a viable attacking option.
Nick Feely – 6
Did what he could as a substitute keeper, had his eyes peeled and didn’t waste any time warming into the game.
Xavi Torres – 6
One of the Glory’s amigos returned, replacing Andreu. Didn’t manage to become involved heavily, but became one of a few link up players in the Glory midfield.
