PROFESSIONAL Footballers Australia (PFA) has hailed efforts to keep North Queensland Fury afloat as the players' union prepares to assist its members in contract talks this week.
Fury will take their place in the A-League next season but it is as yet unclear how many members of the existing squad will be part of the picture.
"The last few weeks have been a very difficult time for the club and, in particular, the players and their families," Chief Executive Brendan Schwab told the PFA's official website.
"Throughout, the players have been most impressive in their commitment to the club, each other and the football community of North Queensland. This commitment saw the team achieve some outstanding results on the field in 2009/2010, despite a terrible injury toll."
The immediate priority for FFA and the PFA is to work through the contractual arrangements for the players.
"The players are, of course, the club's number one asset," Schwab added.
One of the biggest question marks surrounding Fury is whether marquee man Robbie Fowler wil return to Townsville and if so, in what capacity?
