Wanderers will play the Gunners in their second game of their tour of Australia on Saturday night at ANZ Stadium.

For Western Sydney, the game comes almost three months out from their A-League season opener against Perth Glory at Spotless Stadium on October 8.

Wanderers are yet to finalise their pre-season preparation plans but have an August 1 FFA Cup Round of 32 date with Wellington Phoenix.

“It’s early for us as well. It’s a long pre-season,” Popovic said.

“A game like this always helps the players, to test themselves against the best.

“For a lot of our young players they’ll be coming up against their idols.

“It’s an opportunity to showcase themselves and showcase Australian football.

“Hopefully both sides can show Arsenal how football has progressed in this country.”

While Sydney FC have played Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham over the past 30 months, the Arsenal game represents Wanderers’ first clash against a top European club.

Popovic encouraged his players and Wanderers fans to make the most of the rare opportunity against Arsenal.

“We watch the Premier League on TV. You don’t often get an opportunity like this to see such a football club here in Sydney,” Popovic said.

“We should make the most of it. We certainly will as a football club.

“We’ll do our best to showcase our players and talent. From the match, we want to learn and see how we can evolve and get better.”
