Midfielder Brad Porter described the 5-0 loss in Gosford as one of the worst he can remember.

"We've got to salvage something after that," he said. "Personally, I think everyone in the change-rooms would agree they're embarrassed.

"They taught us a footballing lesson tonight. It's something that Australian football as a whole has to aspire to.

"Every single one of them was totally comfortable on the ball. It's something we can learn from."

Porter said excuses about having not played a competitive game in three weeks would not be trotted out by the players, and he admitted that heads had dropped after Kawasaki took an early one goal lead.

"At the end of the day, we weren't good enough," he added. "They murdered us. Every single one of us has to put our hand up.

"But I think to a certain extent we let them play. Maybe we gave them a little too much respect. You give anyone time on the ball and they're going to be able to play."

Central Coast striker Nik Mrdja added that after the first Kawasaki goal went in, it reignited some old defensive uncertainties from the back end of the last A-League season. "I suppose we thought here we go again," he said.

Meanwhile Kawasaki superstar Kengo Nakamura joked after the game: "I'd like to play here just before I retire. I like this place, I like Central Coast."
