Portuguese champions Porto were docked six points as a result of the investigation into the affair, while Boavista were relegated and handed a 180,000 euro fine and already-relegated Uniao de Leiria were docked three points.

Porto have also recently been excluded from next season's Champions League because of the scandal, which concerns matches in the 2003/2004 campaign.

A statement on the Portuguese FA website read: "In agreement with those responsible 26 referees and assistant referees were punished for acts of corruption of the refereeing team and falsification of the rules of the games.

"Their periods of suspension will vary from between one year and nine years four months."

The Portuguese FA also announced decisions involving second division clubs Gondomar and Vizela were being investigated.

Meanwhile UEFA have also announced that a meeting concerning Porto's appeal against their disqualification from the Champions League will be heard on Friday June 13 in Nyon.

They did not announce however when a decision on the appeal would be made.
