Vidmar believes his charges are stronger physically compared with this time last year, and are in an encouraging position six weeks out from the start of the A-League season.

"By looking at the testing results, we have certainly improved physically so that's a pleasing thing," said Vidmar.

"I think we've got a few more players who have got a bit more fleet of foot and are more dynamic, so if everything can click and stay injury free I'm confident we can have another consistent year.

"I've been pretty pleased. They've done a fair bit of work which has been great and it's always easier for the players when they start playing a few more games."

Vidmar will be without a number of players through injury for the Glory hit out, however he is expected to field his strongest available line up.

"We've got a couple of injuries but that's all part of it," he added.

"Daniel (Mullen) is still a week or two away, unfortunately Cassio has a bit of a problem with his heel so he won't take any part and Fabian Barbiero is still dealing with the osteitis pubis from the start of pre season."

While United have some injury concerns, it gives Vidmar the chance to have another glimpse at promising Korean midfielder Shin In Sup. The 20 year-old has been trialling with the Reds for the past week and Vidmar admits Shin is close to securing a permanent contract.

"He (Shin) has been quite impressive over the past week so hopefully he can have a good game," Vidmar said.

"We'll see how he goes in the game and then make a decision (on whether we sign him) in the next couple of days."

United have enjoyed a longer than usual pre-season schedule this year, with the club having 15-16 weeks to prepare for the domestic season as opposed to the much shorter period following participation in the AFC Champions League in 2007 and 2008.

Perth have recruited strongly in the off season with Socceroos duo Jacob Burns and Mile Sterjovski joining the club, Vidmar believing this A-League season could prove to be the toughest yet, with a host of high profile players joining Australia's domestic competition.

"From the movement we've seen over the last four weeks, it's going to be an extremely strong A-League season, most teams have recruited extremely well," Vidmar said.

The Reds have faced Glory five times previously in pre-season fixtures (in the former Pre-Season Cup), the ledger reading four draws and a United win, which came at Hindmarsh Stadium in the 2007 Pre-Season Cup Final.

United will follow tonight's friendly match with an encounter against new A-League club the North Queensland Fury in Darwin on Thursday 2 July.

Kick-Off is at 7.30pm (ACST) with a curtain raiser between the Riverland and Western Border kicking off at 4.45pm.
