Bundaberg Spirit made the long trip – a ten hour bus ride to be exact – to play Whitsunday Miners in their first home game of the season. The Miners ran out 4-0 winners on the night with debutant Mitchell Wallace opening the scoring, before Michael VanMoolenbroek rounded the Spirit keeper to double the lead. Brett Neeve made it 3-0 from a free kick, and the Miners’ top scorer this season, Andy Cygan completed the emphatic win.

NQ Razorbacks hosted Redlands City Devils, with injuries meaning that up to five of their players were out. The final score was 3-0 with QSL leading goal-scorer Barry Moran, Ramone Close and Danny Gardiner all on the score sheet. Razorbacks simply lacked the finishing touch, but remain in the competition’s top four following the loss.

Logan United went down 2-0 to a rejuvenated Olympic FC at Clem Jones Fields. United were missing several key players through injury and illness, and never looked comfortable. Olympic, who were looking to eliminate last week’s 7-1 loss from their memory, dominated possession and scored a goal in each half through Cameron Saint and Jack Petrie to come away with the three points.

Brisbane Strikers flew to Rockhampton to play Capricorn Cougars in the Sunday afternoon game. Russell Woodruffe opened the scoring early with an easy tap in following Gerard Kelly’s save from Adam Sarota’s well-hit shot. Justin Kilshaw’s men kept the Strikers on their toes, but lacked the confidence in front of goal. Birthday boy Chris Di Sipio made sure of the win in the dying minutes, beating Kelly with a low drive from the edge of the penalty box.

In the final game of the round, Queensland Academy of Sport and Sunshine Coast Fire played out an exciting encounter of football at Eric Evans Oval in Ipswich. The teams went into the break on level terms after QAS’s Joshua McVey and Fire’s Kema Jack both hit the back of the net. Tyson Holmes scored an impressive solo effort in the second half for the Fire before Tommy Oar equalised with an extraordinary free-kick that curled over the Fire’s five man wall. Holmes netted again with a leaping header to give the Fire the win.
