Real Mallorca took advantage of the early dismissal of Pedro Munitis to score twice and take all three points at Racing Santander and keep up their superb run of form.
Mallorca entered the game with every chance of victory having won four of their last five games to climb to 12th in the table, so they hardly needed a helping hand but got one anyway when Munitis saw red in the 21st minute for a poor tackle on Sergio Ballesteros.
With the extra man, Mallorca grabbed two quick goals early in the second half as Fernando Navarro and Juan Arango scored in the 53rd and 60th minutes respectively.
While Mallorca have been motoring up the table, Racing have stagnated. They came into the game with only one win in five, something that Lionel Scaloni sought to put right when he sent a shot just over the bar from the edge of the area in the third minute.
At the other end, Arango's shot from 20 yards was an easy enough catch for Racing goalkeeper Antonio Tono.
However, the game would change when Munitis was dismissed after a poor tackle on Ballesteros.
Moments later, Victor Casadesus fired narrowly over after a free-kick.
Ten-man Racing still managed to push forward, and towering striker Nikola Zigic had a good chance from Scaloni's 24th minute corner, but he sent the ball straight at goalkeeper Miguel Moya.
Moya was busy again moments later, tipping the ball over the bar when Oscar Rodriguez Serrano's cross curled back in towards goal.
However, that was the last sight of goal Racing would have in the half as Mallorca launched into an all-out assault at the other end.
Ariel Ibagaza began it when he forced Tono into a fine save with a close-range effort which the goalkeeper managed to tip over the crossbar.
Moments later it was Ibagaza again but this time Tono was able to save his shot from the centre of the penalty area.
Arango then tried his luck from the edge of the area, but the shot was charged down by Ruben Gonzalez.
Mallorca's domination continued into the second half.
Just 30 seconds after the re-start, Fernando Varela struck a right-footed effort from close range that Tono did well to hold.
The breakthrough then came in the 53rd minute as Jose Carlos Nunes picked out Navarro with a cross, and the striker put the ball into the top-right hand corner and beyond the reach of Tono.
Racing were inches away from an instant reply.
Just a minute after the goal, Ballesteros brought down Serrano and from the resulting free-kick, Gonzalo Colsa headed against the crossbar.
Colsa was close again moments later. Serrano was again the prover with a cross but Moya was able to parry the ball away for a corner.
But their hopes of getting back into the game were dashed in the 60th minute when Arango struck Mallorca's second.
Arango latched onto Guillermo Pereyra's pass to place a right-footed shot beyond the reach of Moya from the edge of the area.
Racing had a chance to get a goal back when the ball dropped to him 10 yards out but he smashed it over the bar.
Then, at the other end, Bosko Jankovic was off target from the edge of the area, but it would not matter as Mallorca hung on for victory.
