The attacking midfielder known for his marauding raids down the left is enjoying career best form and put his confidence down to a strong Asian Champions League campaign.

Ramsay scored in both legs of the ACL quarter-final, which the Reds lost to Bunyodkor, and backed it up with a goal in Adelaide’s first round win against Newcastle Jets.

With John Kosmina’s men heading into round four top of the table, the 24-year-old believes this is the season the twice championship runners-up could bring home the toilet seat.

“I want to win something for this club and this state,” Ramsay said. “I think this state definitely deserves it and I want to do whatever I can, along with my team-mates, to make it happen.

“We’ve got a squad more than capable of getting there and it’s just a matter of performing week in week out and being as consistent as possible.

“And the fact we’ve had such a great pre-season and ACL campaign behind us has given us so much confidence to get ourselves to the point where we are competing for the championship.”

Last season the Reds finished one off the bottom and outside finals contention. This time the Perth-born midfielder feels the momentum is behind them.

If they get that far, and it’s early days yet, it will be some redemption for Kosmina who coached the Reds to their first grand final loss against Melbourne Victory in 2007.

Ramsay hailed the influence of Dario Vidosic and some shrewd off-season signings but in the end felt the ACL campaign was the real turning point.

“We’ve brought new boys in but it’s more or less the same team that we had last season and to be honest the boys have just gelled a whole lot more,” he said. “We’ve learnt a lot about each other now and you can see that when it comes to game day.

“If you look at the games that we’ve been playing you can see there’s a great understanding now between the players. You can see it on the pitch and the reading of each other which is a whole lot better than last year.

“It’s enjoyable to go to training – obviously you have your ups and downs – but everyone’s enjoying themselves. If you’re in that state of mind it gives you every chance to perform when it comes to game day.”

Ramsay isn’t reading too much into the team’s 2-1 loss to Melbourne Victory last week and says the Reds have more than enough quality to deal with a well-drilled Wellington Phoenix side on Saturday.

Nor is he letting speculation about his club future – he comes of contract at the end of this season –distract him from the task at hand. A good campaign and that, he says, will take care of itself. Talk of interest from the Philippines national team and his desire to break into the Socceroos squad can wait for another day.

“I’m not too sure what the future holds but at this point of time I can definitely tell you I’m enjoying myself at Adelaide United and I have ever since I got here,” he said.

“It’s my third year and I’m dying to win the A-League title and that’s my main focus right now.”
