Sydney FC’s opponents in Wednesday night’s Asian Champions League arrive in Sydney today full of confidence after a 2-0 win in the J-League.
Urawa Red Diamonds defeated lowly Ventforet Kofu 2-0 on Saturday in Saitama with both goals by in-form striker Washington.
According to reports, Brazilian-born Japanese international Marcus Tulio Tanaka delivered a cross from the left allowing Washington to score from close-range in the 57th minute.
Then, ten minutes later, Washington's effort from a Tatsuya Tanaka pass was saved by Kofu goalkeeper Kensaku Abe, but the big striker quickly collected the rebound to give the Reds a two-goal cushion.
"I'm just glad that we gained three points. It was very hard work," said Urawa's German coach Holger Osieck.
"I think my players started to play better and better in each game," he added.
Urawa is on seven points and unbeaten after three games of the new J-League season.
