United were made to work for the draw against a MetroStars side fielding a number of former National League players trying to impress with the contest providing another valuable hit out for coach Aurelio Vidmar's men.

Vidmar gave starts to Victorian Premier League duo Jack Hingert and Aron Wilford, who are currently on trial with the Reds, before bringing on a number of youngsters for the last half an hour of the match as he did against Para Hills a week ago.

It was the hosts, and a former Adelaide United midfielder, that opened the scoring after 10 minutes. MetroStars midfielder Michael Mattricciani neatly lobbed the ball over oncoming Reds keeper Eugene Galekovic, sending the ball into the back of the net from 25 metres.

United were not without their share of chances in the opening half but it was not until the second stanza that the Reds managed to break through.

Coming on as a second half substitute, Alemao danced his way down the right hand side and into the MetroStars penalty area before being brought down by two defenders, the Brazilian winning a penalty in the process.

Kristian Sarkies converted from the spot to level the scores and end the scoring for the night, although MetroStars did come close with two shots crashing into the post.

The match gave Vidmar another opportunity to throw around his line up and increase the match time of his charges.

Adam Hughes, Fabian Barbiero, Lucas Pantelis, Cassio and Daniel Mullen have all yet to play any minutes in the opening two trials, and striker Lloyd Owusu is still to arrive from England, giving Reds fans hope for the coming season.

The Reds will front up again next Tuesday night to face their third Super League outfit when they face Raiders at the Croatian Sports Centre. Kick-Off is at 7.30pm (ACST).
