Having created a number of promising opportunities against the Jets, United failed to capitalise and coach Aurelio Vidmar knows his team will need to put more goalmouth pressure on Perth’s last line of defence tomorrow night.

“We just weren’t making runs into the box last week and I think as we have done all year, we got the ball out to good areas but we just didn’t have the players making the effort to get into the box,” Vidmar said at today’s Media Conference.

“Once we get guys making those runs to help out the strikers, they will definitely put the ball away.”

At the other end of the field, the Reds will be looking to shut down Perth’s forwards as they search for their first clean sheet since facing Glory back in Round 7.

Goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic has been reliable between the posts but he will need the help of a fully disciplined and organised United defence to keep Perth at bay.

Glory coach Mitchell declared all of the pressure would be on United to try and consolidate a top four spot and while Vidmar agrees about the magnitude of the result, he is not getting involved in the mind games.

“There’s no pressure on us," he said. "I see that he said that we need to get into the top two and we’re far from a top two side so it’s no problem for us.

"We’re just playing at home and we want to win the game, it’s as simple as that. It’s definitely a big game for us and one we need to win.

"I think we took a step forward against Newcastle considering the last two games we played before that so we’re looking for continued improvement and it’s really getting to a crucial stage of the year.”

Vidmar will be without Club Champion Jason Spagnuolo from last week’s line up, while he has also left out midfielder Jonas Salley.

However, the line up will be bolstered by the return of explosive Brazilian defender Cassio from a hamstring strain, and United has also included for the first time in the A-League 23 year old Fabian Barbiero on the bench, the MetroStars midfielder signed on a two week contract.

Nathan Burns and Kristian Sarkies, United’s two Qantas Under 23 representatives who helped the Olyroos qualify for the Olympics after playing in DPR Korea mid week, arrive back in Adelaide on the day of the game but are unlikely to play.

The last two matches between United and Perth have ended in goalless draws, but 0-0 is not in the Reds’ calculations tomorrow night as they have trips to Wellington and Melbourne following the game against the Glory.

With ideal conditions forecast for tomorrow night and plenty to play for from United’s point of view, United will be hoping for a big crowd at Hindmarsh Stadium to give them the edge over the Glory.
